PARENT COMMITTEE MEETING ONEIDA NATION SCHOOLS PARENT MEETING TURTLE SCHOOL CAFETERIA December 15,2005 6;00 PM Present: Marlene Ninham, Amy and Daniel Allenby, Frieda Clary, Debbie Reiter-Mehojah, Sharon and Marlin B. Mousseau, Justine Souto,Beatrice Skenandore and son Wendell, Fern Penass and son Peter, Crystal Danforth and Marissa and Lindsey, Becky Nutt, Georgia Fool Bull and sons Geronimo and Quannah and Autumn, Robert Ganka, Tracy Metoxen and son William and daughter Lexandria, Laurie and Anthony and children, Jodell Crawford and children, Evelyn Elm. Welcome ; Laurie Johnson Chairperson Old business: Becky Nutt- is now presenting the details of the Chemical Demonstration show that she had requested earlier. A motion was made by Debbie Reiter -Mehojah to approve and seconded by Tracy Metoxen , motion carried. Cost $300.00 New Business Budget report for JOM Requests from Alice Skenandore–Wise Women Gathering for funds to support two classes at high school for nine sessions each. The name of the class is the "Relationship Class". This is a follow -up to the "Abstinence Class’ taught in eighth grade. Motion was made and seconded to the request for funds. Cost $3000.00. Nominations for a Co- Chairperson and a person to record minutes of the meetings. Nominations were opened for a co-chairperson. Two nominations were offered. A ballot vote was taken. Jodell Crawford is the new co-chairperson with Laurie Johnson. The next office for person to record minutes for the meeting offered. Only one nomination was offered ,and nominations closed with the total group unanimously selecting Frieda Clary. She graciously accepted. A very delicious meal was served, thanks to the CAPPS Program. Thanks to CAPPS for the babysitters. Justine Souto presented a informational program on the subject of our youth and the alcohol problem as well as other social problems we in this community are experiencing. Parents were glad to be informed. The subject of the need for mittens and hats for some of our children who come to school without them was raised by a concerned parent.. The children are required to play outdoors when the weather is not to cold. A motion was made and approved to purchase five sets of mittens and hats for each classroom, FACE- Fifth grade. The mittens and hats will stay with the classroom . After they are used they will be washed and dried , ready to be used again. Following is a list of fun activities the families participated in: 1. Christmas Card Making for nursing home residents or for persons in the military. 2. Making a Gingerbread House Moms , Dads, and children and youth had great fun 3. Frosting gingerbread people cookies Santa did not make it to our meeting , but he did leave gifts for each family to take home- a Christmas ornament for the family to put together and hang on their tree. The next meeting will be January 19,2006 at the Turtle School at 600 PM. Come join your friends and neighbors . This is an excellent opportunity to help our children have a school we all can enjoy and feel a part of. Stop in and visit the Parent Resource Room. We even have a computer in their for your use!
